Haunting experiences in Abergele

For those who love the supernatural, Abergele is a regular haunt!  Some people attest to having seen a ghost ship near to Pensarn in the north of Abergele.  Legend has it that this ship set sail for America with Welsh Prince, Madoc on board in the late 1100s. It was never seen again, apart from in ghostly form along this part of the Welsh coast.

Gwrych Castle

Gwrych Castle was built in the early 1800s. Up until 1985 the castle saw a lot of life with various ownership changes along the way. The UK government commandeered the castle as a home for Jewish refugees in WW2. Throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s it was a venue open to the public, hosting boxing championships and training for boxers, motorcycle rallies and medieval event and banquets.  However, it fell into disrepair after it was purchased by an American.  His plans for renovation never happened and now the castle is in a ruinous condition.  This may be why two ghosts have been seen there. One of them is purported to be a woman who had been interred at a location that was not consecrated. The other is a female wearing red who died whilst out fox hunting.

Ghost hunters with holiday homes in Abergele North Wales can enjoy more spooky experiences around the area.  The Black Lion Pub at Babell, Swallow Falls, Anna Davies Countrywear Store and the Royal Oak Hotel all in Bettws y Coed have a variety of ghosts.  Shadowy figures, highwaymen and poltergeists abound in this area.
